The Kimberly is the most northern part of the nine regions of Western Australia. On the west, it is bordered by Indian Ocean and on the north is the Timor Sea, while on the south it is bordered by the Great sandy and the Tanami Deserts. There are 30 different languages in the area with a population of more than 50.000 people.

A little history of the Kimberly

The Kimberly was one of the earliest parts of Australia to be settled. The leaders from the land were inexperienced and this caused delays in developments. Floods were also very common before the area got any developments and they led people to abandon their stores and homes. When the Europeans arrived, they discovered gold at the Halls Creek and this caused a hostile atmosphere. They also discovered diamonds later on and that the land was fertile enough for growing crops.

Why do people visit the Kimberly?

There are thousands of tourists who visit the Kimberly every year. Some of the things that these people enjoy include:

  • Bird watching –There are different types of birds in the land. From eagles to osprey you enjoy watching the amazing birds.
  • Mammals – In the water, you can watch whales, dolphins and dugongs. On the land, there are dingo, kangaroos and wallabies.
  • Waterfalls – Waterfalls such as Mitchell Falls are beautiful and attract lots of photographers. The Montgomery reef is submerged at a very high tide. The low tide creates changes in water and creates beautiful falls.
  • Geology –The Kimberly was formed in a very unique and beautiful way. The rocks’ walls are bright red due to iron oxide in the sand stone while erosion has caused rocks to form beautiful shapes. There are also cliffs that sprout from the ground.
  • Rock art – Some of the significant rock art on the Kimberley is among the oldest rock art in the world. The rock art is everywhere and has depictions of the humans on earth. The wandjina art is very unique since it is the only rock art in the world which is preserved by the generation of the creators.
  • Colors –The deep red rocks and the deep blue sky and sea are breathtaking. There are also beautiful green bushes and trees which surround the coastline. The colors are so intense that using a polarizing lens on your camera is pointless.
  • Space – If you need space away from people to relax or to enjoy your vacation, Kimberly will give you space and time for relaxation. It is also rare to see a lot of people gathered along the coast of Kimberly.
  • Sunsets – The sunsets on Kimberly are beautiful. The space on Kimberly allows you to enjoy the sunset by yourself. Photographers also get to take beautiful photos of the sunset.
  • Climate –During the dry season, it hardly rains and the days are warm and sunny. This is usually the best time to visit waterfalls.
